You may have heard lots about Maca (it’s in our NEW Blueberry & Maca Power Yoghurt for starters), but you’d be forgiven for asking what exactly is it?!

So, what is Maca?
Put simply, Maca is a plant native to Peru where it has a long history of culinary and medicinal uses. The main edible part of the plant is the root, which nowadays is dried and consumed in powder form. The taste of this powder can be described as earthy and nutty, making it an increasingly popular addition to smoothies, oatmeal and yoghurt (guilty!). In fact, Maca has exploded in popularity and is a common ingredient at health stores and cafes.
Why is it so ‘super’?
Maca has been highly regarded for centuries as a miracle food, but only recently has jumped into the spotlight as a must-have ‘superfood’. Why we hear you ask? The root powder is very nutritious and a great source of several important vitamins and minerals such as protein, Vitamin C and iron. It’s commonly used for energy support, supporting better immunity, women’s hormone health, normal cognitive function support and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
How you can use it?
There are so many delicious and simple ways to incorporate Maca into your diet, we’ve listed some of our favourites below:
- Add to your favourite smoothie or smoothie bowl recipe
- Mix through your morning oats or porridge
